The world’s first livebirth after uterine transplant.
Nine women have undergone uterine transplantation at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. Two rejected the uterus and underwent hysterectomy. Seven menstruated. One of these, who had undergone transplantation from a 61-year-old family friend in 2013, became pregnant following in vitro fertilisation of one of her own eggs. The pregnancy was complicated by pre-eclampsia. She delivered a live baby at 31 weeks via Caesarean section in September 2014. The full report is in the Lancet.
